Art and Design

Painting

Our aims...

Our Art and Design curriculum helps children develop their creativity, confidence and imagination. Children have opportunities to explore a range of materials, techniques and artistic styles as they develop their own ideas.

Children learn about a wide range of artists and use their work as inspiration, while being encouraged to experiment and make their own creative choices.

We want children to enjoy Art, feel proud of what they create and understand that experimenting, making changes and trying again are all part of being an artist.

What Art and Design looks like at Brook Acre

  • We build on our previous learning and develop our artistic skills as we move through school.
  • We explore drawing, painting, printing, collage, sculpture and textiles.
  • We use sketchbooks to explore ideas, practise skills and develop our work.
  • We learn about a wide range of artists and use their work to inspire us.
  • We experiment with colour, line, shape, pattern, texture and form.
  • We make our own creative choices so that our artwork is individual to us.
  • We talk about our own artwork and the work of others, sharing our ideas and celebrating creativity.
  • Art is enjoyable, creative and gives every child the opportunity to feel successful
