Geography at Brook Acre

What to expect

At Brook Acre, we aim to inspire curiosity and wonder about the world around us. Through Geography, our children develop an understanding of places, people, environments, and cultures, both locally and globally. We encourage our children to explore, question, and appreciate the diversity of our planet while developing the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible, informed global citizens. Our Geography curriculum enables our children to understand their place in the world and the impact they can have on its future.

Progression of skills in Geography

From our youngest learners in our  0–3 provision through to Year 6, our children develop their geographical knowledge and skills through a carefully sequenced curriculum. Early experiences focus on exploring their immediate environment and understanding the world around them through play, observation, and discussion. As they move through the school, our children build on these foundations by developing map skills, fieldwork techniques, locational knowledge, and an understanding of human and physical geography. By Year 6, our children are confident geographers who can investigate, analyse, and explain geographical patterns and processes, while demonstrating an informed understanding of local, national, and global issues.

Geography learning at home

We encourage our parents to support their child's geographical learning beyond the classroom. This may be  by completing some super learning projects, which can be represented in a creative masterpiece or exploring a range of engaging online resources and educational games. Your child's teacher will set the home learning  project and if you have any questions or in need of any advise on available resources, they will be happy to help. The online activities  provide fun opportunities for our children to develop their map skills, learn about different countries and cultures, explore physical and human geography, and deepen their understanding of the world around them. We hope these exciting resources will inspire curiosity, encourage exploration, and foster a lifelong interest in Geography.
